Provider Members, consumers and guests to the home page
of the Indiana Assisted Living Federation of America
(IALFA) web site. Our desire is to be THE resource for
assisted living information in the state of Indiana.
Our intent is to provide comprehensive information in
an easy and understandable format for our members and
visitors.
What is an assisted
living residence?
An assisted living residence is a special combination
of housing, personalized supportive services and health
care designed to meet the needs -- both scheduled and
unscheduled — of those who require help with activities
of daily living. It is a long-term residence option
that provides resident-centered care in a residential
setting. It is designed for those who need extra help
in their day-to-day lives but who do not require 24-hour
skilled nursing care.
The State of Indiana requires an assisted
living community to register as a Housing with Services
Establishment (HSE) which requires disclosure of the
kinds of services available and / or provided to the
residents. Depending on the provision of services, assisted
living communities may choose to become licensed by
the Indiana State Department of Health as a type of
health facility known as a Residential Care Facility.
